Why am I attractive to weird men?
Alright, maybe there are normal men out there who are or have been attracted to me, but if so they keep it quiet. There are, however, an uncanny number of random, creepy and bold (often old) men who seem to think I'm an option. I find this odd and amusing. To illustrate, consider this example from yesterday:
I'm walking to work on a lovely, sunny afternoon considering whether or not to hop into Beaners for a drink to keep me happy on my walk. I am just passing Starbucks and I spot an old, unkempt, skinny man wearing overalls, a bandana and a tye-dye shirt. He's just a tad strange-looking, but whatever. I keep walking with him keeping pace a bit behind me. Then the following ensues:
Creepy old man says "The women in this town are something else."
Somewhat taken aback and unsure of his meaning, I respond with a non-commital "hmmm."
Creepy old man, looking me up and down while I avoid making eye-contact, "Actually, you're not too bad your d**n-self."
I respond (sarcastically) "Oh, thanks." I'm amused, but increase my pace significantly.
Creepy old man, "Pretty earrings too"
At this point I say "thank you" and succeed in out-walking him. I decided not to stop at Beaners since that would have given him an opportunity to catch up.
The whole thing was very odd and rather unsettling, but mostly I find it hilarious because:
1. He didn't keep following me
2. He used the phrase "d**n-self"
3. It was sunny out and the middle of the afternoon.
4. This sort of thing keeps happening and that (I think) is pretty funny.
So that is my anecdote illustrating the "attractive to weird men" problem that I have. In case you are in the least bit confused, I myself am NOT attracted to weird men. It is a very one-sided phenomenon. Also, I don't intend to worry anyone (mom) I was in no danger, I'm not scarred for life, and I really do think it's funny and want to share the story because I think you might find it funny as well.

Poor Wheeze, that's pretty creepy. Still, you're right: Saying "d*mn-self" is pretty funny. Are you saying that this happens to you somewhat frequently? Does this come with the territory of being a woman? You get used to this sort of thing? I'm gonna say that the reason "normal men" don't do this is because it would make them creepy, and therefore not normal. Have a good one!
Ha, too true. Although "normal men" also don't express any interest whatever. Normal interest is nice, creepy interest is, well...creepy. I don't know if other women experience the same thing. I'd be interested in finding out. For the most part, it is pretty funny.
Hiya maryn! Hope you're managing your week thusfar!
Ha, that's an awesome story, one of your many. I actually have had some encounters with WOM myself. Remember the one at washtenaw who kept asking me what the most exotic food I've ever eaten was? It was pretty funny like yours, since I was similarly discouraging in conversation. He wanted to know if I'd ever eaten ostrich and he knew this great place.....yikes.
Maryn,
I DON'T THINK IT'S FUNNY AT ALL!!!!!
Maybe you should learn some karate moves from your other family...
Maybe you should carry mace...
Yup, Mom
